Building a reliable communication backbone from the Pennsylvania border to Lake Ontario, east to Rochester — accessible to everyday people using inexpensive devices.
Our Mission
WNY MeshCore is a group of volunteers building a reliable communication backbone — from the Pennsylvania border to Lake Ontario, east to the edge of Rochester. Our goal is a network that everyday people can use with inexpensive devices, even when the internet and cell towers are down.
What is MeshCore?
MeshCore lets you send text messages over radio waves — no cell service or internet needed. A small, affordable device pairs to your phone over Bluetooth and transmits your messages across the mesh. Repeaters placed on rooftops and hilltops relay those messages further, extending the network's reach across Western NY.

Off-Grid Communication
Stay connected in the backcountry, during power outages, or anywhere cellular service doesn't reach. No internet or cell towers required.
Community-Powered Network
Every node you add makes the network reach a little farther. Join a mix of ham radio operators, tinkerers, and WNY locals putting it together piece by piece.
Open Source Technology
Built on open protocols and affordable hardware. No vendor lock-in, no subscriptions, no corporate gatekeepers. The network belongs to the community.
Western NY Coverage
From WNY to the mountain peaks. We're building coverage across across Western NY, with nodes in Buffalo, Rochester, and beyond. See our live network map.
